benjamin francis leftwich. atlas hands. [songs]

i got a mixtape a while back. oooooh, is there a better gift? well, or let's rather say: is there a better gift than a mixtape from a friend who has excellent music taste? or since taste is obviously highly objective: a mixtape from someone who has similar music taste but knows way more bands than you do? i spent many, many hours listening to said mixtape. over and over again.
there were songs from artists such as half moon run, the alabama shakes, laura marling, to kill a king, daughter and edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros. with some artists on the tape i was already familiar with but would have selected other songs from. the songs i love and songs that stay with me. however, at times these songs keep me from listening to new songs from said artists. so getting a mixtape is kind of a chance to broaden the spectrum of music one moves in.
when i went on a spontaneous roadtrip with a couchsurfer from new zealand we took the mixtape with us and the songs somehow became intertwined with the roadtrip and the hours we spent driving through the alps on our way towards geneva. i find that while listening to a mixtape there is always one song that stands out. while this can change over time for the duration of the roadtrip it was definitely benjamin francis leftwich's song atlas hands. we just both found ourselves pushing the repeat button again and again and again...
