after a few hundred kilometers on the bike, just standing on the ground felt pretty damn good. still, this was for sure one of the best days of last year. what's better than going on a bike tour with your dad?

"vorfreud". there is no expression in english which accurately translates the meaning of this word, or at least i still haven't found it yet. however, what i want to express with it is that i really cannot wait until it is the 13th of august. on that day the national is going to play a concert here in zurich and i already bought tickets to said concert for my sister and me. until then, everytime i will hear a song of the national a smile will creep up on my face and i will silently almost burst with joy, in the knowledge that there is something grand to look forward to. yes, i love live music more than anything in the world and sharing an experience with someone that i love just makes it that much better.

a couple of weeks back one of my dearest friends told me that she had a surprise for me and that i should not plan anything for the first of february. 

well, when i arrived at her place that night she had the most delicious dinner ever prepared and afterwards we went to a concert at bogen f, quite a cool concert venue i had never been to before. now, i very much love live music, however, since pretty much everything is expensive in zurich (concerts are no exception), i kinda spent the winter hibernating in my apartment, reading and learning for uni, working out at the gym and ...at work. occasionally, i would visit friends, spend some time at my parents' place and just going to a little café was something special to me. 

i love züri. i really do. and in summer it is an amazing place. it's just that there is not a whole lot you can do during the winter that does not cost you money. 

so, after an entire winter of entertainmant deprivation i was incredibly excited to have the pleasure to enjoy live music again. and it was everything i hoped for. and apparently longed for more than i thought i did .

i did not know to kill a king before that evening but when the whole room joined in when they played  the song choices i almost had a little cry then and there. 
oh, it would have been tears of joy.

keepsakes that make me happy. [travels]

while i love traveling just for the sake of traveling i also love traveling because it always makes me aware of how much i love coming home and spending time with my family and my friends again. surrounding me with random things from my travels at home somehow helps me during times when i have what i call the "itchy-feet-syndrom" and just want to leave everything behind. i can look at everything and daydream wonderfully and, therefore, include my travel memories into everyday life, intertwining the two.

it's not the most ideal situation when your best friend in the world lives in vancouver. not generally speaking of course but if you yourself are living in zurich and the both of you do not have loads of money to throw out of the window for flights this is a bit of a problem. however, i was able to find a flight that i can actually afford and therefore i will be hanging out with my lovely faerie of the forests for three weeks. well, hanging out is not quite accurate. we will be finding out how far away from vancouver we can get on our bikes. the plan is to be near the ocean every single day since the ocean is our favourite thing ever and since the world is quite unfair sometimes, there is no ocean near zurich anywhere. so, we will be spending our days on our bikes, out in nature, camping out on beaches, collecting beach treasures, making bonfires and singing on the top of our voices together because that is another favourite thing of ours. for now, i will just occupy myself with studying maps, in anticipation of this overload of summer happiness. we will also be weird together, have insanely long talks about just virtually anything we can think of and do everything that can only be done with best friends. now, we just have to find a way to teach the bestest dog in the world to run next to a bike. although i have to say, if she is equally stubborn in this regard as she is with her refusal to ever learn how to swim this might prove to be really difficult. anyway, with or without dog, these three weeks will be amazing and i am sure that it won't rain. ever. not a single time during those weeks. ever.
